2 - 5 September 2010

Dear colleague,

Time flies. The 43rd annual meeting of the SLE will be held within less than four months.

The full programme and the abstracts are now available on our conference website. Thanks to your good submissions, we are looking forward to a fruitful and rewarding linguistic event.

Below we will give you additional information on the conference.

Registration

An electronic registration form is available on the website. Participants can pay the early registration fee till the end of this month; late registration fees can be paid till the end of June. Please note that, in order to guarantee a smooth organization of the conference, registration and payment by June 30th are necessary. Papers for which no author has been registered before this deadline will not be included in the final programme.

This message has been sent to the e-mail addresses registered on the website. Thank you for forwarding it to your co-author(s) (if applicable).

If for some reason you have to cancel your participation, please inform the conference manager at your earliest convenience.

The SLE secretary-treasurer will send an invoice to participants who registered as future members. Membership fees that are not paid before the beginning of the conference will be charged in cash at the registration desk. New memberships will start in 2011, but future members will also receive the journals of 2010 that appear after their payment.

Registration desk

The registration desk will be located in the Faculty of Philology, in the entrance hall of the Donelaitis Reading Room (the Mathias Casimirus Sarbievius Courtyard of Vilnius University). On Wednesday 1 September, the registration desk will be open between 5 pm and 8 pm. During the four conference days, the desk will be staffed from 8 am.

Housing

On our website you can make an electronic hotel reservation. An additional list of hostels can be found at Vilnius-Hostels.net.]

Visa

If you require a visa for your visit to Lithuania, please contact the Meeting Secretariat.

Prize for the best presentation

There will a prize for the best presentation by a PhD-student and the best presentation by a postdoc.

PhD-students have not completed their PhD before the conference. Postdocs have completed their PhD not earlier than January 2007. Papers should be the scholar's own work. They may be co-authored, but not by senior staff. If one of the co-authors is a postdoc, then the presentation will be scheduled in the postdoc group.

The first prize in both categories is 500 and one-year free membership of the SLE. The second and third prize is a three-year free membership. Co-authors of the first prize share the money.

Candidates who have received an average score of 4 or more from the Scientific Committee are invited to apply for the prize. Please send a message to Bert Cornillie indicating your category. A shortlist of three candidates will be set up on the basis of the ranking of the scores. A committee of members of the Editorial Board of Folia Linguistica present at SLE 2010 will assess the presentations.

Job market

SLE is keen to play a role in the growing internationalization of the European Departments of Linguistics. This year participants can post job offers (research and teaching assistants, project workers, staff, etc) on our conference site (send a message to the conference manager). These vacant positions will also be put on a blackboard in Vilnius so that participants who have not looked at the website will be able to arrange appointments.

Lectures

All other lectures will be held at the Old Campus, which is in the immediate vicinity of most of the hotels. Plenary sessions will take place in the Vilnius University Theatre Hall. A map will be posted on the website in the last circular of mid-August.

Handouts

Handouts will present the main arguments and examples of the paper and will contain morpheme-by-morpheme glosses following the Leipzig conventions.

Technical facilities

The lecture rooms on the conference site are equipped with the standard technical facilities: white board, overhead projector, computer and beamer. Any other special facilities (loudspeakers) need to be arranged beforehand, so please inform us of your wishes.

Photocopies can be made in the shops near the faculty building. If you bring your USB-flash you will be able to print your copies directly from your computer. However, it is advisable, that you bring the paper copies with you, so as to avoid queueing and possible delays.

Internet

There is also a wireless local area network on campus, so you can access the internet from your laptops, provided they are equipped with suitable WLAN cards. There will also be a couple of desktop computers with internet connection.

Catering and social programme

Coffee will be served in the faculty building and we will have lunch in the Artis Hotel, at walking distance from the faculty building.

A welcoming reception will be held on Thursday 2 September. On Friday 3 September there will be a walk in the city centre. The conference dinner will take place on Saturday evening, 4 September. Registration and payment (35 euros) beforehand are required.

If you want a special diet for lunch and/or dinner, please let the agency know.

A map and a short description of the venues can be found on the website (Section Social Programme). More details will be posted on the website and will be sent in the last circular of mid-August.

The pre-conference and post-conference trips on Wednesday 1 September and Sunday 5 September will start on 3 p.m. Please check the list of pre- and post-conference excursions on the website, especially if this is your first visit to Lithuania. We are proud that Vilnius, the Curonian Spit and the spectacular Kernav are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
