Department of Research in Languages for Specific Purposes (DRLSP) brings together researchers in the fields of English linguistics, applied linguistics and didactics, exploring the following areas: corpus linguistics, semantics, phonetics (dr. L. Bikelienė), generative syntax, cognitive linguistics (dr. J. Korostenskienė), metaphor, humour discourse (dr. J. Korostenskienė), academic discourse of native English speakers and learners of English (dr. L. Bikelienė, dr. A. Janulienė), translation theory and practice (D. Veličkienė, dr. J. Korostenskienė), and didactic aspects of learning and teaching (dr. S. Kontrimienė, dr. A. Janulienė, dr. O.Medvedeva).
DRLSP posits the following objectives:
- To form research groups and conduct research falling under the theme Structural, Semantic, Phonetic, and Functional Language Explorations. Employing the dimensions of semantics, phonetics, corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, translation theory, and conceptual metaphor theory, the staff of the department explores the structure of language, language use and its phenomena, as well as their relation to social and cultural processes.
- To contribute to research conducted within the Institute of Foreign Languages and falling under the following themes: aspects of teaching and learning languages for specific purposes, explorations of peculiarities of language use of foreign language learners, and research on language use in the media.
