A student who is temporarily unable to continue their studies for important reasons may be granted academic leave or suspension of studies.
Please remember that to keep your TRP valid, you must collect at least 40 credits during one academic year. If you do not collect 40 credits, the Migration office might cancel your TRP.

- for pregnancy and infant care – the application must be sent with documents proving the pregnancy or childbirth. Granted for the period provided by Lithuanian law, but not exceeding three years (leave is granted for a period of up to one year, after which it may be renewed twice for another year).
Suspension of studies
A student who has already exhausted their academic leave for personal reasons during their studies, but is temporarily unable to continue their studies for important reasons, may be granted a suspension of studies. Suspension may be granted for a period of up to one year, it must be approved by the Dean of the Faculty. If necessary, the suspension may be extended.
Applying for returning to studies
Application for an academic leave/suspension of studies is made via VU IS. Academic leave/suspension is granted from the date of application until the beginning of the following year in the same semester in which the leave was taken/suspended. Thus, if the leave/suspension is granted during the autumn semester, the leave is granted until 31 August of the following year, and the return to studies is granted from the beginning of the semester on 1 September. In case of academic leave/suspension during the spring semester, the leave shall be granted until 3 February of the following year, returning to studies from the beginning of the semester on 4 February.
No later than 14 days before the end of the academic leave/suspension, an application for continuation of studies (after the suspension/academic leave) must be submitted via VU IS. Failure to submit this request in time will result in termination of the study agreement.
