Come celebrate the Sámi national day with us at the Centre for Scandinavian Studies!

On February 6th, the Centre for Scandinavian Studies celebrates the Sámi national day. The Sámi people are Europe's only recognized indigenous people, and they live in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. The day marks the first gathering of the Sámi parliament in Trondheim in 1917.

Fun fact: The Northuldran people from Frozen 2 are based on the Sámi people.

Our own lect. Ida-Sofie is Sámi herself, and has put together an open program consisting of two short open lectures on Sámi history and culture, a course in the traditional "fire braiding" technique, and at last a screening of the movie Ellos Eatnu - let the river flow. You can come and leave as you please.

In addition to this, she will bring some of her own Sámi traditional clothing and items to a little "exhibition" for you to see and learn about.

Lihkku sámi álbmotbeaivi!
