Languages and Cultures of the Nordic and Baltic Sea Region

Nordic and Baltic Masters Studies at Vilnius University poster MA STUDY PROGRAM

 120 ECTS, 2 years

It is an umbrella programme, coordinated by the Centre for Scandinavian Studies, that allows students to deepen their knowledge of the culture and language studied (Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Russian, Latvian, Polish or German) as well as consistently broaden the specialisation to include a cross-cultural perspective. Several thematic courses are offered that target the socio-cultural developments in the broader context of Eastern, Central and Northern Europe. The students can specialise in literary and cultural studies or (socio)linguistics or choose subjects freely combining these fields. The programme includes cooperation with similar programmes at other universities in the region. The language of instruction is English. The entry requirement is at least B1 level of the language of the chosen specialisation.

 We will provide you with:

  • Opportunities to delve into cutting-edge fields of linguistic and cultural research, such as the study of migration and urban culture, aspects of gender, nature and technology
  • Opportunities to specialise in cultural or (socio-)linguistic fields, as well as to tailor one's studies by choosing a broader intercultural or interdisciplinary profile
  • Understanding of socio-cultural processes and developments in the region
  • Creative and innovative study methods and a friendly study environment
