In celebration of the upcoming European Day of Languages, we invite you to an open lecture delivered by a visiting Professor on 24 September 2025 at 15:00 (K. Donelaitis auditorium, Faculty of Philology, Vilnius University).

Michał B. Paradowski, PhD, DLitt (Habil.) from the Institute of Applied Linguistics, University of Warsaw, Poland, will give a lecture titled: 'Living Between Languages: The Strengths, Struggles, and Surprises of Multilingualism'.

While everyone can become multilingual, many people still have misconceptions about it. This talk will start by clearing up common misunderstandings and prejudices about multilingualism and bilingual education. Then the benefits of speaking two or more languages, including how it can improve both native language skills and non-verbal abilities, as well as how knowing multiple languages helped teachers and students adapt to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic will be explained. Finally, we will see how using a foreign language may affect people’s moral decisions.
