From 15 to 17 October 2026, the Faculty of Philology will host the conference Hagiographic Identities: Catholic Communities and Their Saints in Early Modern Times, which is a part of Patryk M. Ryczkowski’s MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship BasInCult (Catholic Inculturation of the Uniate Church: Basilian Hagiography of the 17th and 18th Centuries).
The conference will bring together around 30 scholars from various countries, including Poland, Lithuania, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Romania, Slovakia, Czechia, Croatia, Hungary, the Netherlands and Great Britain. While focusing on early modern hagiography in the context of the contemporary cultic practices, the presentations will put emphasis on the Basilians, the inherent representatives of monasticism in the eastern Europe and, in particular, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
The keynote lecture will be delivered by Melchior Jakubowski (Warsaw), scholar of Basilian art and recent winner of the ERC Starting Grant (2026) devoted to the Basilians.
The conference will be streamed via zoom – a link can be requested from the organiser ().
